In Guyana, Damera International supplies robust Volvo Trucks from Brazil, along with J.K. Tires for consumer and truck needs (manufactured in India and Mexico). We are ready to foster important private-public partnerships for an Island-wide transportation infrastructure that will have the capability to expand its service offering(s) to not only urban but also inter-city transportation, all managed and serviced by local highly trained individuals.
The mandate for training program will be to develop a skilled workforce to equip individuals with the practical skills needed to support transit fleets, thereby increasing economic growth through skills and reliable public transit. Collaboration with Government, other institutions and private enterprise is required to ensure focus and success of this mandate.
Academic Institutions are always looking for ways to increase their participation and effectiveness at training. We are ready to work with three of the preeminent institutions in Jamaica and two or more in Canada, that partner with us, to formalize an accredited program that mechanics can pass through. This will involve Government participation. The benefits for Jamaican citizens are obvious - more skilled and higher paid jobs, whichis beneficial for the whole Caribbean region.
In Jamaica, we have identified UTECH, HEART and JAGAS as organizations that align with our goals as their mandate and stated goals are very similar to what we need to roll out a skilled workforce supporting new and existing transit vehicles.
It is anticipated that there will be up to 20 mechanics in a training program at any one time. Training of mechanics will take approximately 1 year and will be done in both Jamaica and Canada. Hands on experience and safety protocols will be experienced at Damera’s main garages in Toronto, Canada as part of this 1-year training program.
In Canada there are similar institutions to UTECH, HEART and JAGAS that deliver both university and college level training for engineers and mechanics.
