A robust ongoing maintenance contract package will include additional responsibilities for the chosen contractor of the refurbishment project.
With this combined approach, the contractor, Damera International, not only refurbishes the buses but is also responsible for their ongoing maintenance.
This arrangement gives the contractor a strong incentive to perform high-quality refurbishment work, as they will be responsible for keeping the buses operational and reliable over the long term. The contractor's accountability extends for up to an additional 10 years of the buses' useful life, meaning they must maintain the buses in good working condition for continued use, which aligns with the transit agency’s goal of maximizing fleet longevity and performance.
Implementing an Asset Management Cycle
An asset management cycle in bus fleet operations involves a strategic approach to maintaining and renewing vehicles over time. By establishing this cycle, transit agencies can refurbish existing buses, extending their operational lifespan and reducing costs associated with new vehicle purchases. As these refurbished buses continue to serve the fleet, new buses can be gradually introduced to replace older models that have reached the end of their feasible service life.
